It is also important that our yoga practice helps us with our emotional and mental well-being. Feelings are body states that are shaped by our somatic responses to the world. These take three main forms, our muscular response, our visceral or secretory response and our thought response. When we notice changes in feeling states (particularly discomforting ones) it’s helpful to slowdown rewind a bit and notice what happened, and see if you can repeat the action without the disturbance in your internal state. That way your practice can become both functionally helpful but also stabilising emotionally.
